a - alternate version reporting the same version number but differing slightly, usually in the serial number.
b - an internal Infocom beta version.
h - a hacked version, usually involving alterations to the serial number.
u - uncopy-protected; copy protection has been disabled.

Notes and Acknowledgements
The Z-Machine Preservation Project is an open source Java-based Z-machine interpreter for playing Infocom-style interactive fiction. It can run all ZIP versions from 1 to 8, including the graphics-based v6. It will thus play any release of any Infocom game, from the earliest Zork (ZIP v1) through Journey.
